Pinewood Derby 2018

Saturday, January 20th was the annual Pack 351 Pinewood Derby event!!

We had 39 scout cars racing (including cars from 3 new scouts who joined earlier this week) and 36 scouts in attendance (a few scouts out sick or at coinciding basketball games), plus 6 non-sout cars racing in our Master Class race.

We have a brand new track this year with some excellent timing software that unfortunately put our start time a little behind what we had originally planned but we ended fairly close to our scheduled end time…

Thank you to everyone who came out to watch and support our scouts and a HUGE thank you to all our volunteer Leaders and parent set-up & clean-up helpers…this event would NOT be possible without you!

Great job to our scouts…there were some great cars and the races were so much fun to watch…Congratulations to all the boys and girls of Pack 351!

Time for the Pack 351 Tree Recycle Fundraiser

Tree REcycle Flier2That’s right its the holidays which means the Boy Scouts of Troop 351 and Explorers of Club 351 have been selling Christmas Trees and the Venture Scouts of Crew 351 have been selling wreaths.

As soon as Christmas is complete, it will be time for the Cub Scouts of Pack 351 to begin Recycling Trees, Wreaths, & Garlands for their one and only fundraiser of the year!

The funds raised by our Scouts this year will be helping to send them to Summer Camp as well as other fun functions in which the Pack participates during the 2018 scouting year. In addition to helping send Cub Scouts to summer Camp, every single tree we collect will be repurposed and reused to help with fish habitat restoration in lakes and rivers.

The Pack 351 Tree Recycle Lot is at SE 45th & Powell Blvd in a corner of the St. Ignatius Parking Lot. It will be open weekdays 5-9pm and weekends 9am-9pm for drop-offs starting Wednesday, December 27th and going thru Saturday, January 13th.

Pick-ups can be scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays by calling the Pack’s Tree Recycle Pick-up hotline, Emailing the Tree Recycle address or going online and filling out the simple Pick-up form…pick-up’s will then occur between 9am-1pm as our little Cub Scouts and their drivers make the rounds.

You can get more information on our Tree Recycle Fundraiser here on our website. Our Pack 351 Tree Recycle hotline is (503) 912-4108 and our email is PDXTreeRecycling@gmail.com

and you can click here to Schedule your Tree Pick-up online

We thank you for your generous support of these hardworking, young Cub Scouts. We are so excited for this year’s Tree Recycle Lot, not only for working to help fund our fun Pack activities, but also to directly help in the restoration of fish habitats.

Scouting for Food…huge success

Pack 351 partnered with Venture Crew 351, Explorer Club 351 and Troop 351 to collect non-perishable food for St. Vincent DePaul and the food bank at St. Ignatius church the first Saturday in December.

Not only did we have a record 18 Cub Scouts attend/participate with collecting and sorting the food…but we also held collect a record 1100 lbs of food to replenish the Food Bank which serves those right here in our own community.

If you have any additional non-perishables to donate you can give anytime to St.Ignatius church, they are always accepting donations and are always in need!

Way to go 351 Scouts!!

Pack Service Project: Creston Park Litter Patrol 10/21/2017

While it was rainy and VERY wet outside, 12 scouts (representing 4 of the 5 dens), 4 Pack Leaders, 2 siblings and 8 parents attended this first official service project for the 2017-18 Scouting year.

We met at St. Ignatius at 10am, then walked over to Creston Park. Overall each scout walked about 1-mile if not a bit more than that. and worked for almost 1.5hrs collecting trash beautifying our nearest park.

11 bags of trash were collected (several were bursting full!), 3 needles were reported to the city and one illegal campsite was reported.

These scouts and their families should be very proud of their efforts…Pack 351 sure

is!

Fall Family Campout

October 13-15 marked our first Pack Family campout for the 2017-18 scouting year.

We camped in the mini-dacks in the Nestucca campsite of Camp Clark on the Oregon Coast…just south of Cape Lookout.

While it was rainy Friday for those packing and driving down, the coast itself was a bit cold at times but a dry and beautiful weekend overall. While we had a relatively small group of 8 scouts, 10 adults and 2 siblings in attendance…4 of the 5 Dens were represented as 1 new Tiger Scout did attend, so that is excellent!

Activities included sandcastle building, model rockets launched on the beach and a 1-mile roundtrip hike down to the tide-pools to look at some of the amazing wildlife.  Lots of sea stars, barnacles, anemones, conches and sand dollars were found along with some bullwhip kelp. Before heading out on Sunday, Pack 351 did a campsite clean-up!

The homemade pumpkin spice pancakes for breakfast made by Cubmaster Jen were a hit as were the marinated chicken, rice and carrot burritos for dinner made by Outdoor Activity Leader Tracy…Pack 351 may just have to make their own cookbook with some of these great recipes to share!

Overall -it was a fantastic weekend, beautiful weather and a lot of fun!

Our next Family Campout is planned for April 20-22…more details will likely come out in March…be sure to mark your calendars!
