Earlier this week the Wolf and Bear Den attended Cub Scout summer camp…a 3 day, 2 night resident camp…at Butte Creek Scout Camp.
The boys got to do SO much, including…
load their own gear up to the campsite and sleep in Canvas Tents;
go on a horse ride which varied by their rank as well as learn about various components of being a cowboy and caring for horses;
learn to fish and cast a line at the beautiful dragonfly-filled pond;
go on a nature hike to see a humongous ant hill as well as learn about various local plants;
pan for gold in the creek that could be traded at the camp Trading Post;
learn about pioneering skills and how to care for animals like chickens, goats & bunnies as well as start a fire with flint & steel as well as wash clothes with a washing board;
earn their whittling chip if they had not already done so…some even practiced their whittling skills back at camp;
build a stool, the style varied by their rank;
do Archery and BB Guns;
play gaga as well as play against all our parents and adult leaders who were in attendance…that was AWESOME!;
help with daily meal service and clean-up for breakfast, dinner, and supper;
rehearse and perform skits on stage in front of fellow scouts from our Pack and many others;
watch a fun street show as well as enjoy campfire performances by the camp staff;
roast marshmallows at a campfire and enjoy s’mores;
and so much more….
It was sunny and hot…the days were long but there was so much learned and earned by these boys.
I already can’t wait for Cub Scout Camp 2018!!!
